Just a quick heads up: David Gill and Kevin Brownlow’s landmark 13-part documentary on the founding and early years of Hollywood is now available in its entirety online. Subtitled “A Celebration of the American Silent Film” the series has been plagued by the kind of rights issues one would expect from a production reliant upon clips and material from third parties (see Los Angeles Plays Itself).
One hopes that an official home video release will still happen (the series did make it to VHS and Laserdisc, but in the meantime this is a suitable alternative.
