Monday Blu(e)s And DVD

Herein lies a couple of solid home-video releases for thy perusal. Britain rules the waves.

Disc Of The Week

Skyfall – We’re probably in the minority when we say that the adventures of James Bond don’t particularly interest us, but the rollicking success that is Skyfall even managed to somehow win us over. Roger Deakins’ beautiful visuals, coupled with Sam Mendes assured direction to create one of 2012’s great crowd-pleasers. Equal parts homage to fifty years of 007 and straight thriller, Skyfall is as entertaining as Bond gets.

Steel – Most notable for the inclusion Jack Cardiff’s long thought-to-be lost short Steel! this two-disc set celebrates “a century of steelmaking on film” if the subtitle is to be believed.

The Children’s Film Foundation Collection – The British Film Institute are releasing a number of packages in this line over the next couple of months, and get things started with a couple of sports related hour-long dramas.
