Monday Blu(e)s And DVD

A very quiet week leads what is set to be a landmark month for home video releases.

Disc Of The Week

Upstream Color – A first for Monday Blu(e)s and DVD, in that we’re recommending a US release. Shane Carruth’s long-anticipated follow-up to 2004’s Primer is this week released on Blu-ray and DVD following a limited theatrical release. The film isn’t out in the UK ’til August, and while that bit of mid-season counter-programming is nice and subversive, the wait has pushed us to the import market.

Billy Liar – John Schlesinger’s remarkable breakthrough film celebrates it’s fiftieth anniversary this year. As such it’s being given the expected anniversary re-release, with a solid HD restoration and a couple of new extra features in tow.

Eastwood Westerns – A couple of pretty interesting Westerns hit Blu-ray this week, with this pair of Clint Eastwood films amongst the most interesting. John Sturges and Don Siegel direct.
