The Criterion Memorandum. August 2014.

Welcome to this month’s Criterion Memorandum. Join us, as we take a look at the latest announcements from the esteemed US boutique home video label.

Coming as something of a relief to those anticipating July to be an expensive month, August is relatively quiet for Criterion. While the announcement of Bob Fosse’s All That Jazz stands as a major coup for the label, and Y Tu Mama Tambien is a long awaited disc, having been teased for many years, there’s certainly an air of the low key in the wake of last month’s bumper bill of titles.

That said, against any scale of measurement the announcement of John Cassavetes’ Love Streams in HD remains an undeniably exciting prospect, with Criterion doing bar-setting work on their earlier Cassavetes collection, while Pedro Almodovar makes his entry in to the series with Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!, an early highlight from the Spanish auteur. Rounding off this batch of discs is an upgrade of Shohei Imamura’s incredible Vengeance Is Mine, which has been available in the UK for some time.

Here’s the artwork for the August discs. The cover for Y Tu Mama Tambien is forthcoming.
