Arrow, with their Arrow Video and Arrow Academy imprints have become something of a forced to be reckoned with in the realm of home video.
This morning they revealed their plans for the third quarter of 2014, with Cronenberg, the Wachowskis and Suzaki join the collection, alongside more typical cult fare.
Remo Williams kicks this period off, and immediately takes with it The-Delta-Force-WTF-Prize-For-Surprise. A curious addition. The pre-CGI days of The Wachowskis are mined in Bound, while Seijun Suzaki’s Branded To Kill is given a Region B release. Also released this month will be the delayed L’Assassino and a standalone release of The Beast, otherwise featured in Arrow’s ambitious Walerian Borowcyzk box-set.
Jules Dassin’s Brute Force leads this month, with a long overdue upgrade of his prison movie joining Rififi in the Arrow Academy imprint. Arrow return to their offbeat roots with Killer Klowns From Outer Space, as pure an example of ‘Cult’ as is possible. Stray Dogs was poised for release much earlier, but suffered delays due to problematic source material.
Shivers, an early work from David Cronenberg is the highlight of this whole quarter, with this new release a valuable update of the existing DVD. Night Of The Comet is an absolute gem of a movie, with Arrow’s disc set to replicate the existing US Shout Factory release, while the 2014 Francesco Rosi appreciation continues apace with Salvatore Giuliano, an Arrow Academy package, making for the second lavish edition of one of his pictures this year (following Masters Of Cinema’s Hands Over The City). The quarter is rounded off by a Stray Cat Rock box-set.
